Local author Jason Wright’s novel “Christmas Jars” has been turned into a movie that will debut in November.

The theatrical screenings for “Christmas Jars” are set for Nov. 4.

The film, based on local author Jason Wright’s novel of the same name, follows Hope – played by actress Jeni Ross – an eager and talented young newspaper reporter who finds a jar full of money at her door and is determined to find out who is behind the act.

Screenings are scheduled for Gainesville, Fairfax, and Frederick, Maryland. Wright said that, as of now, there are no local screenings planned. He said it wasn’t by choice or due to a lack of local interest.

“The theatrical rights world is more complicated than I ever imagined,” he said.

Wright said the film is showing in over 800 theaters nationwide, but mostly in larger markets.

“We’re working hard to get the film to Woodstock, and I personally won’t give up until the evening of Nov. 4 when the film is released,” Wright said.

He noted that if people want to encourage the distributor to bring the film to the Shenandoah Valley, they can comment on the “Christmas Jars the Movie” Facebook page.

“Regardless of whether the film makes it to the Shenandoah Valley, fans will be able to purchase the DVD and see it on television later this fall,” he said.

Wright said details of the home video release and television premiere are to be announced.
