With the holiday season underway, local churches will be exploring the religious side of the season with live nativities.

Fellowship Bible Church in Winchester will host the Follow the Star live nativity event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Kernstown Battlefield. Visitors will go on a walking journey through scenes with actors and animals as they reenact the night Jesus was born.

Karen Santmier, the co-director of Follow the Star along with her husband Scott, said the event gives people the chance to experience the birth of Jesus in a different way.

“Our goal was to take people on the same journey that the three wise men went on over 2000 years ago,” Karen Santmier said.

There will be cookies and hot drinks available along with caroling, a photo station and more after the event.

Mount Olive Baptist Church will host a living nativity during the Merrimint in Middletown from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The nativity scene will feature actors as well as living animals such as sheep and camels.

Skyline Baptist Church in Front Royal will host a living nativity from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 14.

There is no admission for all three live nativity events.
