Elfie, a 12-week-old male domestic short-haired kitten, is available for adoption at the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter at 268 Landfill Road, Edinburg.

His adoption fee is $40. The shelter is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. Information: 540-984-8955.

Holiday concerts • The First Presbyterian Church will host a holiday concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday featuring soprano MiKayla Lynn Hatfield, pianist Amy Bowman and special guest Campbell Mason at 116 S. Loudoun St., Winchester.

• The American Legion Community Band will present a Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Boggs Chapel at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal.

• The Blue Ridge Singers will present a musical program for Advent and Christmas at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Front Royal Presbyterian Church, 115 Luray Ave.

Veteran Services A Veteran Services representative will be at Bowman Library in Stephens City from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday. No appointment is needed. Veterans may stop by to ask questions or file a claim.

JP’s toy drive

Eight-year-old JP is collecting toys for his fourth annual toy drive for less fortunate children in our community.

New unopened toys may be left at any of the following locations:

• Strasburg Police Department, 174 E. King St.

• Fairfield Inn & Suites, 33760 Old Valley Pike, Strasburg.

• Ciro’s Pizza, 788 Shopping Center Road, (Food Lion Shopping Center) Strasburg.

• Rt. 11 Diner, 1296 S. Main St., Woodstock.

Christmas festival The Shenandoah Community Fellowship will host a Christmas festival from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at 197 Patmos Road, Woodstock.

Featured will be games and songs to sing, dump truck and first responder vehicles to explore, mini-Christmas tree farm to pick your own tree, music and baked goods.

Wreaths Across America The Narrow Passage chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is asking for donations to place wreaths on the graves of local heroes at 14 cemeteries in Shenandoah County.

Hat/mitten drive

W.W. Robinson Elementary School is sponsoring a hat and mitten drive through Dec. 21 at 1231 Susan Ave., Woodstock.

Donations of new, unwrapped hats, mittens or gloves will be given to local children. Information: contact Ms. Stovall, school counselor, at 540-459-5155.

Heritage Society The Warren Heritage Society will host a Christmas open house from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at 101 Chester St., Front Royal. The event will feature 17th-century re-enactors, three historical homes, the fully functioning outdoor kitchen and blacksmith shop. Refreshments served.

Equine Rescue Journey Up Equine Rescue and Empowerment Center Inc., in Toms Brook, is raising funds to provide rescue, rehab and sanctuary and re-home horses in need and provide equine therapy programs to disadvantaged youth.

Donations are being accepted to sponsor one of the center’s horses or to purchase a set of lessons or equine therapy sessions.
