Celebration

Sacred Heart Academy in Winchester will celebrate Catholic Schools Week Sunday through Feb. 2.

In addition to an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, the academy will have specially themed days throughout the remainder of the week: Monday, Teacher Appreciation Day; Tuesday, Family Appreciation Day; Wednesday, Community Appreciation Day; Thursday, Student Appreciation Day; Friday, Clergy Appreciation Day.

A Saints and Sinners basketball game, featuring students facing off against parents, staff and clergy, will close out the week at 6 p.m. Feb. 2 in the school gym.

Beekeeping

Friday is the deadline to register for classes on practical beekeeping for beginners sponsored by Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation.

Classes will be held 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 2; 1 to 3 p.m. March 2; and 7 to 9 p.m. March 5.

Nathan Miller, of Edinburg, has been named to the dean’s list with high honors at McDaniel College for the fall semester.

Music Guild

Shenandoah Valley Music Guild President David Collins presented Shenandoah Valley Music Festival Chairwoman Leigh Devier with a check for $18,000 during a luncheon at Triplett Tech.

The luncheon was attended by 95 Guild members and guests. The Guild also donated $18,000 to SVMF in 2017, breaking its record that year for the most money raised for the festival since the Guild’s founding in 1992. Money donated helps subsidize ticket revenue to pay for general operating costs, promotion, artist fees and music education programs in schools. Information: www.musicfest.org.

Prayer Brunch

The Apple Blossom Festival’s prayer brunch date and location have been changed to 9:30 a.m. May 3 at the Winchester Church of God on state Route 522 North.

Advance tickets to the brunch have been sold out. However, tickets will be available at the Festival’s Official Souvenir Store and Ticket Outlet at a location to be announced at 10 a.m. April 5.
