Dinner rescheduled

A pork loin dinner, benefiting Eric Hockman and scheduled for Saturday, has been rescheduled for 4-7 p.m. Jan. 26 at Laurel Hill Christian Church.


Esbie Baptist Church in Strasburg will hold its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Monday. The guest speaker will be Gwen Walker, from Love, Hope and Fellowship Church and president of the Winchester chapter of the NAACP.


Kristin Black, with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, will be the speaker at the Women’s Resource Center’s networking lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at 213 E. Main St., Front Royal. Attendance is free. Those attending should bring lunch.

The SPCA of Winchester, Frederick and Clarke and the Petco Foundation are asking pet adopters to join them in creating the world's largest Valentine to shelter pets and the people who care for them.

Participants who submit a photo or video Valentine at through Feb. 13 will be eligible to win a daily prize. This will also give the SPCA a chance to earn a $1,000 daily grant award. At the end of the submission period, if the local SPCA receives the most Valentines, it will be eligible for $10,000 and 1,000 pounds of WholeHearted pet food.

On Feb. 14, the Petco Foundation will deliver the final Valentine mosaic to more than 4,000 animal welfare organizations containing heartfelt thank you messages from supporters across the country. Representatives from the Petco Foundation will also be visiting some shelters in person with a special Valentine delivery.
