The Woodstock Fire Department will host a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. A free-will offering will be accepted for dine in; take outs are $7 per plate. Benefits the new truck fund.

College news

Two area students attending Berea College graduated with bachelor’s degrees on Dec. 19. They are:

• Anna Soares, of Winchester, graduated with great honors in arts education studies.

• Stephen Soares, of Stephens City, graduated with honors with a bachelor of arts in theater.

Writing contest

Winners of the 40th annual holiday writing contest, sponsored by Samuels Public Library and Royal Oak Bookshop, were honored at a reception on Dec. 19.

Each winning entry was read aloud for the audience. Winners received a certificate and a copy of the published booklet containing all the winners’ work. First-place winners also received gift certificates to the bookshop. Children whose artwork was selected for publication were recognized as well. Winners and the school they attend are:
