Bake sale

The Church of the Rock in Front Royal will hold a bake sale starting at 8 a.m. Saturday in front of Jennerations at 411 South St.

Food distributions

• The Compassion Cupboard will distribute food from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at 533 Burgess St., Strasburg. Information: 540-465-9476.

• The Bread of Life Food Pantry will distribute food from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Woodstock United Methodist Church. Information: 540-459-4144.

Library

The Shenandoah County Library in Edinburg will host the following programs:

• Tuesday: 3 p.m., Teen Space Makerspace. The program will show teens how to use equipment to make their own videos.

• Wednesday: 2 p.m., ScienceTellers. The program is “Aliens: Escape from Earth.” Children will learn how to launch a potato in the air and the chemistry of flying a rocket. Registration is not required, but seating is limited.

Pool closing

The Claude A. Stokes Jr. Community Swimming Pool in Front Royal will be closing at 4 p.m. Wednesday due to the annual fireman’s parade.

Scholarships

Four area students have been named 2019 Virginia’s Future Leaders Scholarship winners by the Broadband Association of Virginia, Donald A. Perry Foundation and Shenandoah Telecommunications Co. They are:

• Basye: Caitlynn Bennett, who plans to attend Christopher Newport University.

• Edinburg: Brandon Landes and Haleigh Myrtle, who both plan to attend James Madison University.

• Mount Jackson: Chandler Estep, who will attend the University of Virginia.
