Tournament

Strasburg American Legion Post 77 will host a cornhole tournament Saturday at the American Legion River Lot on Funk Road. Registration starts at 10 a.m. followed by the tournament at 11 a.m.

Social

Mt. View Parish, consisting of St. Luke and Mt. Zion Lutheran churches, will host an ice cream social beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Parish Hall in Woodstock. Proceeds benefit Shenandoah Valley Lutheran Ministries programs, A Small Hand (aids infants), Luke's Backpack (aids school-aged children) and Good Shepherd (aids the elderly).

Workshop

Aids Response Effort, Handley Library and BB&T will partner to offer a financial literacy workshop from 3-6 p.m. Monday at the library in Winchester. The program will include banking basics and budgeting as well as housing services. Information: 540-536-5394.

Shenandoah County Library in Edinburg will host wildlife shows at 3 and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Members of the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center will introduce kids to some rescued animals that they might find in their own back yard. Seating for both programs is limited. Information: 540-984-8200.

The Mt. Olive community covered dish meal will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Toms Brook.

College news

Abigail Murphy, of Woodstock, was named to the dean's list at Salisbury University for the spring semester.

Rotary president

Steve Morlan has been inducted as president of the Rotary Club of Woodstock for 2019-2020.

Morlan, a retired public school teacher and administrator, moved back to Woodstock after 32 years in Greenville, South Carolina. In 2017 he was named Volunteer of the Year. Last year, he headed a committee to assist Triplett Tech with erecting a pavilion at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds in Woodstock.
