The Shenandoah County Democratic Caucus will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Historic Courthouse in Woodstock.

Speakers will be Democratic Party of Virginia Political Director Shyam Raman and Deputy Political Director Liddy Gallagher.


The Ira and Rebecca Ryman reunion will be held at noon Sunday at the Edinburg Park, first shelter. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and drinks. Paper products provided.

Christmas assistance

The Salvation Army Winchester Corps will hold registration for Christmas assistance for families in Winchester and Frederick and Clarke counties.

Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30-7 p.m. Tuesday and Oct. 2 and 3 at 300 Fort Collier Road, Winchester. Those applying for assistance must apply in person.

The following documents are required to be brought to registration:

• Proof of identification (only one needed): valid photo, passport or Consulate card.

• Proof of residence (only one needed): lease or rental agreement along with the amount of rent paid, utility bill, bank statement or phone bill.

• Proof of income (only one needed): birth certificate of all children being registered (ages 0-12 until Dec. 25), current school or shot records, valid passport, official custody or guardianship papers or expecting mothers need a document of due date from a physician if birth is expected before Jan. 31.

Due to the high volume of calls, the staff is unable to go over this information over the phone. Children should not be brought to registration.

Iris sale

The Shenandoah and Potomac Iris Society will hold an iris sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at West Oaks Farm Market, 4305 Middle Road, Winchester.

Attendees will learn about planting, growing and caring for irises and meet local hybridizers. There will also be live music, hayrides, corn maze, pumpkin patch, apple orchard, kids’ activities, and food vendors.
