School bash

The W.W. Robinson Elementary School PTO will hold a Back-To-School Bash from 4-7 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Wristbands for unlimited game play are available for $5. There will also be bounce houses, face painting and a dunk tank. Food sold.


St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church will sell barbecued chicken halves on Saturday at 15226 Senedo Road, Edinburg.

Pre-orders can be made by calling 540-984-9260 or stop by after 10:30 a.m. Proceeds benefit Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter and the Good Shepherd Ministry of Shenandoah Valley Lutheran Ministries.


The families of John W. and Hattie Melton Smith and Robert and Myrtle Smith White will meet from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the R.R. Donnelly shelter at the Strasburg Park and Playground. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and drinks. Plates, cups and utensils provided.


Continuing its celebration of Winchester’s 275th founding, Preservation of Historic Winchester will present “From Disaster to Redemption: George Washington and the Making of Winchester” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the George Washington Hotel in Winchester.

The guest speaker will be Carl Ekberg, a member of the board of the French & Indian War Foundation and recipient of the gold medal of merit, La Medaille d’Or du Merite Francophone.

Rick Logan, president of the South Warren Ruritan Club, presented two $1,500 Edgar R. Baldwin Memorial scholarships to Katherine Breeden and Kinsey Nguyen at the club’s annual family picnic on Aug. 13.

Katherine, a June graduate of Warren County High School, is a freshman at James Madison University.

Kinsey, a June graduate of Skyline High School, will attend Roanoke College this fall.
