Dominion Raceway and Entertainment located in Woodford announced this week that it will be celebrating the life of Craig Murto on Sept. 18.

Murto was a long-time racing columnist and magazine publisher. His weekly column appeared in the Northern Virginia Daily for many years. He died in February 2020.

The Southern Modified Tour will be coming to Dominion Raceway on that day. Former NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte has a team on the Southern Modified Tour and plans to attend the event.

Dominion Raceway states on its Facebook page that it is fitting to recognize Murto on the last day of NASCAR points and the first Southern Modified Tour event in Dominion Raceway’s history.

“Craig donated much of his career and worked tirelessly publishing one of the sports’ finest magazines, Late Model (Racer),” the Facebook post states. “We miss Craig and it will be great to have his family and friends here that day to enjoy such an exceptional night. We know Craig will be smiling from the heavens!!! Much more to follow on this one including some special race sponsorships in the works.”

Murto started his magazine in the 1990s and had a passion for racing, especially at the smaller race tracks.
