Motorists who use Happy Creek Road can expect delays as construction crews close the route in Warren County.

Contractors plan to close Happy Creek Road to through traffic from Front Royal’s eastern town limits to Dismal Hollow Road beginning Saturday morning, the Virginia Department of Transportation advised in a media release issued on Monday.

Motorists should expect to see detour signs posted near the construction site. Northbound traffic from Happy Creek Road must take Leach Run Parkway to John Marshall Highway to Dismal Hollow Road. Southbound traffic must take Dismal Hollow Road to Leach Run Parkway and then to Happy Creek Road.

Crews shall maintain access to residential and business properties in the area during the closure.

The contractor plans to reopen the stretch of Happy Creek Road on Aug. 6, the release states. Crews will continue to work on the project through the end of December.

All work is weather permitting.

The project includes the widening and alignment of Happy Creek Road as well as drainage improvements from the town limits to Manassas Run Road. The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded a contract valued at $1,736,387 to Kickin’ Asphalt Paving and Excavation LLC, of Strasburg, to construct safety improvements on Happy Creek Road.
