The deadline to file required signatures to be a candidate in some local elections in Warren and Shenandoah counties this November is 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The deadline arrives as local elections were recently moved from May to November by the 2020 General Assembly to be more in line with national elections.

Those wanting to be a candidate in Woodstock, Strasburg and Front Royal need to acquire 125 signatures by the deadline.

There are no elections for Shenandoah and Warren county seats.

In Woodstock, the seats of Mayor Jeremy D. McCleary and council members A. Paje Cross, Stephen Heishman, and Frank Haun are up for election.

In Strasburg, the seats of council members John Massoud, Taralyn Nicholson and Emily Reynolds are up for election.

An additional Strasburg Town Council seat held by Ashleigh Kimmons is up for a special election.

In Front Royal, the seats of Mayor Chris Holloway and council members Gary L. Gillispie, Letasha T. Thompson and Amber F. Morris are up for election.

An additional Front Royal council seat held by appointed member Zack Jackson is up for a special election, but the deadline to be a candidate for it is 5 p.m. Aug. 19.

Offices in both counties are closed today. The Shenandoah County Registrar's Office will open at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and the Warren County Registrar's Office will open at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Potential candidates seeking office in Mount Jackson, New Market and Edinburg in Shenandoah County do not need the signatures, but elections will still be held there.

In Mount Jackson, the seats of Mayor Donald I. Pifer and council members Judy Fultz, Bonnie Good, and Roger Rudy will be up for election.

In New Market, the seats of Vice Mayor Peggy Harkness and council members Daryl Watkins and Janice Hannah will be up for election.

In Edinburg, the seats of Mayor Daniel Harshman, Vice Mayor Steve Wood and council members Clyde Beachy, Joan Reistetter, Brad Dellinger and Fay Wymer-Hollar terms will be up for election.
