Dellinger Funeral Homes in Shenandoah County announced new ownership Tuesday with minimal changes.
According to county records, Dellinger Funeral Homes Inc. was sold to Capstone Funeral Holdings of VA LLC for $777,563. The sale comes as Funeral Directors Janelle Fadely and David Litten are set to retire.
The funeral home has served the county and the surrounding area for over 137 years.
“Janelle was ready to retire, and she was looking for some buyers,” said Jerry Litten, who will continue as the company’s general manager.
Day-to-day business will remain the same, Litten said. Changes, though, will be made to facilities with updates to include new paint, carpet, lighting and the addition of video and television screens throughout the funeral homes. No changes are being made to pricing.
Litten also said there will be no changes to pre-need funeral contracts that have been signed and that no pre-need contracts will need to be amended. All pre-need contracts will be “honored and fulfilled.”
“We just want to let the community know we’re here for them, as we have been for the last 137 years,” Litten said.
According to a news release from the funeral home, Gary Comer and his wife Patsy will continue in their roles at the Dellinger Funeral Homes “Theis Chapel” in New Market.
The rest of the staff will also stay intact, Litten said, including Stephanie Heishman-Litten (fifth generation of Dellinger's) John Dorrin (39 years of service), Wanda Adams (five years), Matt Litten (sixth generation), Corey Litten (sixth generation), Mindy Litten (11 years) and Wayne Shaffer (41 years).
“It’s the same faces,” Litten said.
Litten thanked Fadeley and David Litten for their service and wished them both the best of luck in retirement.
Dellinger Funeral Homes operates facilities in Woodstock, Mount Jackson and New Market.
