Authorities have charged a Strasburg man with burglary and larceny in connection with the theft of a crossbow.
Lt. Bo Hall of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office identified the defendant as Mack Tolbert, 34.
Hall said that a property owner in the 600 block of Cemetery Road saw a vehicle backed up to his garage on Tuesday. The property owner saw a man put something in the trunk of his vehicle and the vehicle left.
The man immediately reported it and a deputy in the area saw the vehicle and made a traffic stop, Hall said
Tolbert was the passenger, he said.
The vehicle owner gave the deputy permission to search the vehicle and the crossbow was found in the trunk, Hall said.
The property owner arrived on the scene and identified the crossbow, with a value of $700, as his.
The Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail also lists unspecified bail violations and a charge of disorderly conduct Tolbert is alleged to have committed. Hall had no information on the bail violation or the disorderly conduct case.
