A 43-year-old Edinburg resident died after a two-vehicle crash in Strasburg on Monday night, according to the Virginia State Police.

Howard T. Violett Jr. succumbed to life-threatening injuries after he was transported to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital following the crash, according to a news release from Virginia State Police.

The crash occurred at 4:45 p.m. Monday along Va. 55, also known as Front Royal Road, near West Jackson Street.

Violett was driving a 2012 Honda Accord west on Va. 55 when it crossed a double solid yellow center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2009 Freightliner box truck.

A medical condition may have been a factor in the crash. Violett was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Freightliner was a 50-year-old Front Royal man, who was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Virginia State Police Trooper M. Albert is investigating the crash.
