While the summer is heating up, the Edinburg Fire Department and Star Tannery Volunteer Fire and Rescue are planning to cool down the residents of Shenandoah Valley with carnivals this week.

Edinburg Fire Department will host its Firemen’s Carnival from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the Edinburg Town Park. The event will feature games, bingo, bouncy houses, and live music.

“It’s something fun to do,” said Chris Tusing, deputy fire chief for the Edinburg Fire Department. “We encourage people to come out and support the community.”

Tusing said that one of the highlights of the carnival is the barbecued chicken that will be offered at the VFW Pit on Thursday and Saturday starting at 10 a.m. He said that people who are interested in getting some chicken will need to get there early since he can’t guarantee any would last to the actual carnival.

The Firemen’s Parade is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.

Star Tannery Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s annual carnival will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at the Star Tannery Volunteer Fire Department at 950 Brill Road in Star Tannery.

The carnival will feature live music, food, and a parade starting at 7 p.m. Bluegrass band Springfield Exit will perform immediately after the parade concludes.

Admission for both events is free.
