We don't mean to whine, but it's hot.
The air conditioner doesn't seem to be keeping up with the heat outdoors. Our deodorant is failing, and we're having some bad hair days. This weekend it's going to get hotter – Saturday's forecast is a blazing sun and a miserable 98 degrees. We're going to be screeching “I'm melting!' like the Wicked Witch of the West while she was turning into a puddle after Dorothy splashed her and Scarecrow with water.
The hotter it gets, the more we need to slow down, drink lots of water and stay in the shade or in front of a fan. We're being urged by electric companies to conserve energy – don't run your dishwasher or washer or dryer during the day. Keep the lights off. Close the blinds. Cook on the grill.
Other don'ts: Don't take your dog for a walk on the hot pavement, or leave a pet or child in a hot car. Don't stay out in the heat too long, and don't ignore your elderly relatives, neighbors and outdoor pets - please check on them.
Try to stay cool this weekend, and take heart from the National Weather Service forecast that some relief is on the way. Temperatures are expected to fall into the mid-80s after Sunday. Hopefully, we won't see another 90-plus-degree day the rest of this month.
