We agree that the workforce housing project and any other projects the Town of Front Royal was involved in with the Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority over the past few years need to be carefully reviewed, but not during a closed meeting as suggested earlier this week in a council work session.
The fallout from the EDA scandal – the former executive director has been arrested on embezzlement charges and several other people and businesses have been sued by the EDA for $17.6 million for alleged misappropriation of funds – does need to be examined by the Town Council as well as the county Board of Supervisors, but let the public listen in on those discussions. Secrecy creates suspicion, and there’s been more than enough speculation and rumors floating around the town and county the past few months about this complex situation.
Area residents need to understand how their tax dollars are being handled. Let the sun shine on these fallout discussions.
