A joint resolution to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment has been approved in Virginia’s Senate. A House of Delegates subcommittee has recommended the House pass it. So when is the vote?
A member of a local group supporting ratification is complaining that Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Mount Jackson and House majority leader, is trying to prevent a vote by the full House through a proposed rules change. Gilbert responded in a 1A story on Wednesday that “the House rules have never been used as a vehicle to advance a specific piece of legislation.”
We urge House Speaker M. Kirkland Cox to bring the ERA resolution up for a vote on the House floor. The state Senate allowed it. Virginia’s delegates should have the opportunity to vote on it as well.
