Mother’s Day came a little early in Quicksburg this week when the Stonewall Jackson girls soccer team honored their teammates’ mom during Cancer Awareness Night.

The team, those in the stands and her family showed Jennifer Biller their support and love during an emotional ceremony that drew more than a few tears. The team sold T-shirts to raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society in the names of Biller and Stonewall Jackson freshman Martin Hernandez, who are both battling cancer.

Our 1A story on Thursday about this event conveyed the warm wishes and love shown during that night as well as a message that Biller embraces and practices. The message was printed on the back of the T-shirts that were sold: “You have been assigned this mountain to show others that it can be moved.”

Tuesday night’s event brought the community together for a wonderful tribute that also helped raise funds for research and awareness of the battle against cancer.

This group of teenagers and their supporters also moved a mountain that night.
