Police investigate a fatal crash on Back Mountain Road in Shenandoah County on Monday.

WOODSTOCK — One woman died after a head-on collision on Back Road just south of Wisman Road on Monday morning, Virginia State Police confirmed on Tuesday.

Elisa S. Montalvo, 19, of Bradenton, Florida, lost control of her 2009 Chevy Cobalt at 10:25 a.m. and crossed over the centerline, colliding with a 1998 Chevy Silverado, according to a state police news release.

Montalvo was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She later died from her injuries. Montalvo was not wearing her seat belt, according to the release.

Sgt. Brent Coffey, a public information officer for the state police, wrote in an email that Montalvo was not ejected from her car.

The driver of the Silverado and a passenger were not identified by state police. Both the driver, a 77-year old man from Strasburg, and a male passenger, 58, suffered serious injuries and were transported to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital for treatment. Both men in the Silverado were wearing their seat belts.

The current status of both men is unknown, according to Coffey.

State police are still investigating the crash but no charges have been filed.
