The Shenandoah Fire Marshal’s Office has released the name of the 72-year-old man who died last week in a fatal fire at Massanutten Manor in Strasburg.

Billy Lake Clem, 72, died Wednesday as a result of injuries he sustained in an early morning fire that appears to have started when he was smoking while using an oxygen tank and mask, investigators said.

An alarm call at 5:35 a.m. from a sprinkler system activation alerted first responders to the fire at Massanutten Manor, 100 Massanutten Manor Circle in Strasburg.

Shenandoah County Fire Marshal David Ferguson previously said Clem suffered from numerous medical issues and had been released from an area hospital the day prior.
