Police arrested a Fort Valley man and charged him with the sexual assault of a minor.

On Tuesday, police filed a warrant to arrest Charles Richard McMahon, 42, charging him with raping a child, showing his genitals to a child, and proposing a child show him their genitals.

In February, police responded to a school to follow up on a complaint made by a child that someone had abused them. The child told police that McMahon made the child undress and lie on a towel while he had sex with the child, according to documents.

As a part of their investigation, a forensic medical team went to the child’s home and collected evidence relating to the incident, including the clothing the child was wearing before and after the alleged incident took place. When the lab results from the clothing returned earlier this week, the results showed traces of McMahon’s DNA.

Court documents show McMahon turned himself into the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office.

McMahon is facing two charges of indecent liberties with a child and one count of sexual assault.
