Sherando’s Cole Orr struck out 17 as the Warriors topped Liberty, 7-0, in Class 4 Northwestern District baseball action on Friday in Bealeton.

Orr went 6.2 innings, allowed six hits and walked none. He threw 100 pitches in picking up the win.

The Warriors scored a run in the top of the first, three in the second and three in the top of the fourth.

Tyler Whitacre had a double and a run scored, and Malachi Sloane had a double and an RBI to lead Sherando at the plate. Trey Williams had a single, a run scored and an RBI for Sherando.

The Warriors (2-0, 1-0 Class 4 Northwestern) play at Loudoun County on Monday.

Buffalo Gap 15, Mountain View 1, 5 innings

The Generals started the season off with a road non-district loss to the Bison. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Buffalo Gap scored three runs in the bottom of the first, and three each in the bottom of the second and third.

The Generals managed only four hits in the loss. Hunter Rinker and Joey McNamera had a double each, and Zander Jodrie and Chase Jones had a single each for the Generals. Seth Moomaw had an RBI, and McNamera scored the team’s lone run in the top of the fourth.

The Generals (0-1) play at Madison County on Tuesday.

Page County 8, Warren County 5

The Wildcats came up short in a road non-district loss to the Panthers.

Warren County took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Page County responded with two in the bottom of the first. The Panthers extended the lead to 5-1 with three runs in the bottom of the second. Warren County responded with three runs of its own in the top of the third, but the Panthers scored one run each in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Wildcats were led by Adam Andlinger with two singles and two runs scored, and Seb France with a single and three RBIs. Dillon Lord and Landon Pond had a single and an RBI each for Warren County.

The Wildcats (0-2) play at Strasburg on Tuesday.

Softball

Sherando 15, Liberty 3, 5 innings

The Warriors scored 15 runs in the top of the second inning to pull out a road Class 4 Northwestern District win over the Eagles. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Liberty took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Warriors pounded out 18 hits in the victory.

Madison Harris had a single, two runs scored, and four RBIs, and Abby Vadnais had two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Warriors. Santanna Puller had a single, a run scored and three RBIs, and Mady Cox had a double, a single, a run scored and an RBI for Sherando. Kendra Chunta had two singles, two runs scored and an RBI, and Anna Borst had a double, a single, two runs scored and an RBI for the Warriors. Kayla Grum had a triple, a single, an RBI and a run scored, and Jaeda Long had two singles, two runs scored and an RBI for Sherando.

The Warriors (1-1, 1-0 Class 4 Northwestern) play at Loudoun County on Monday.

Page County 12, Warren County 2, 6 innings

The Wildcats suffered a road non-district loss to the Panthers. The game was called after six innings due to the mercy rule.

Warren County took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Panthers responded with two of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Page County added two more runs in the bottom of the second and one in the third for a 5-1 lead. The Panthers pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth.

Warren County managed only three hits. Taylor Wrye, Sara Waller and Lacie Glascock had a single each. Waller and Ariel Rogers scored a run each, and Wrye had an RBI for Warren County.

The Wildcats (1-1) play at Strasburg on Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Warren County 9, Broadway 0

Bridget Hay had four goals to lead the Wildcats past the Gobblers in a non-district road contest.

Audrey Moya had two goals, and Natayla Carter had a goal and an assist for the Wildcats. Laney Schener and Sadie Rosner had a goal each for Warren County.

The Wildcats (1-0) play at Clarke County on Tuesday.

Boys tennis

Riverheads 9, Central 0

The Falcons were swept by reigning Region 2B champion Riverheads in a non-district home match.

In singles matches, Riverheads’ Cayden Swats beat Ethan Hoover (No. 1, 8-2), Ethan Eppard beat Ethan George (No. 2, 8-3), Colby Cash beat Zach Cooper (No. 3, 8-4), Mason Mays beat Ben Walters (No. 4, 8-4), Adam Higgins beat Bruce Mitchell (No. 5, 8-3) and Luke Bryant beat Anthony Pulizzi (No. 6, 8-4).

In doubles action, Riverheads’ Swats and Higgins beat Hoover and George (No. 1, 8-3), Eppard and Cash beat Cooper and Walters (No. 2, 8-2) and Mays and Bryant beat Mitchell and Brady Barr (No. 3, 8-5).

The Falcons (1-1) play at Stuarts Draft on Tuesday.
