The Colonels are coming off a 16-9 season, in which they advanced to the Region 4C quarterfinals. James Wood is led by Makayla Firebaugh, a Rider University commit. James Wood plays at Clarke County on Thursday in its season opener.

3. Strasburg 0-0 -

The Rams return most of their squad from last year's Class 2 state quarterfinal team. They are led by 6-foot-4 senior Christyan Reid, a Northern Kentucky University commit, and 6-foot-3 senior Jaden Alsberry. Strasburg opens its season at Warren County on Tuesday.

4. Handley 0-0 -

The Judges went 14-8 last year and lost Taylor Beard and point guard Neysha Washington to graduation. The Judges host Kettle Run on Wednesday in their season opener.

5. Sherando 0-0 -

The Warriors lost top scorer Ashton Clark (17 points per game) to graduation, but return Asia James (10 points per game) as well as junior point guard Bella Entsminger from last year's 11-13 squad. First-year coach Brooklyn Wilson's Sherando squad opens its season at home with Central on Tuesday.

6. Skyline 0-0 -

The Hawks lost the bulk of last year's 13-11, Region 3B semifinalist squad, to graduation. Junior Christa Grady, sophomore Kyra Whitmore and senior Jordan Kenney will look to play big roles on the team. Skyline opens its season today by hosting Fauquier.

7. Central 0-0 -

The Falcons will look to replace the production of graduated players Kendall Herbaugh and Tycara Scott. Seniors Maria Marston (12.5 points per game last year) and Maya Frye-Williams and sophomores Erika Hutton and Ella Toothman will play big roles for the team this season. Central opens at Sherando on Tuesday.

8. Clarke County 0-0 -

The Eagles return top scorer Raegan Owens (11 points per game last year) from last year's 8-13 squad. Clarke County opens at Broadway today.

9. Stonewall Jackson 0-0 -

The Generals are led by junior point guard Kylene Franklin (18.7 points per game last year) and return the bulk of their 1-21 team from last season. Three freshmen will play key roles this season. The Generals open their season at Harrisonburg on Wednesday.

10. Warren County 0-0 -

The Wildcats return the bulk of last year's 2-20 squad. Senior Brianna Hogan will once again look to lead the way for a young team with some promising freshmen this season. The Wildcats host Strasburg on Tuesday in their season opener.
