A Warren County Circuit Court grand jury indicted an Edinburg man Nov. 9 after he was previously arrested in August for firing fireworks at another car while he was driving on Interstate 66.

John Thomas Funkhouser III, 22, of 23 Lamberts Villa, was charged by the grand jury with the felony of unlawfully throwing a missile at or against an occupied vehicle. He is also charged with three misdemeanor cases of drinking while driving with an open container, aggressive driving and reckless driving.

According to the criminal complaint, Virginia State Police on Aug. 7 around 3 p.m. in Warren County observed a white Ford Fusion illegally cut off vehicles aggressively and follow them too closely on I-66. The driver of the car then fired fireworks at another vehicle, the complaint stated.

The driver was stopped and identified as Funkhouser III by his driver’s license and he admitted to shooting fireworks at another car and aggressively driving, the complaint continued. A half-empty open container was found in the center console and Funkhouser III admitted to drinking the alcohol while driving down I-66, the complaint states.

Funkhouser III is due in Warren County Circuit Court on Dec. 4 for all charges. He is released from custody on $4,000 bond.
