On Wednesday, Virginia added 4,598 new COVID-19 cases, and the health district added 181.

Frederick County added 77 cases, Shenandoah County 40, Page County 15, Warren County 13, Winchester 23 and Clarke County 13.

Hospitalizations were reported in Frederick (two), Warren and Winchester (one each).

Deaths were reported in Clarke, Winchester and Shenandoah (one each).

The Virginia Department of Health reported 193,272 people statewide have received at least one vaccine dose, an increase of 11,956.

Additionally, 22,985 people are fully vaccinated, an increase of 3,899.

Locally, Frederick reported 1,995 doses (up 150) administered as of Wednesday, along with 524 people fully vaccinated (up 80).

Winchester reported 2,378 (up 165) doses and 645 fully vaccinated (up 79).

Clarke reported 664 (up 62) doses and 60 fully vaccinated (up nine).

Warren reported 825 (up 67) doses and 150 fully vaccinated (up 36).

Shenandoah reported 1,226 (up 161) doses and 209 fully vaccinated (up 25).

Page reported 472 (up 112) doses and 64 fully vaccinated (up 17).


Area school divisions also updated their online dashboards with changes in active COVID-19 cases.

Shenandoah schools have 13 student cases (up eight) and nine staff cases (down one), adding one student case at Stonewall Jackson High and three at Strasburg High.

Triplett Tech and Massanutten Regional Governor’s School reported four new student cases between them (four new), though the online dashboard said cases at Triplett and the governor’s school could be duplicates of those at other high schools.

W.W. Robinson Elementary and Central High School are on virtual learning models through at least Friday.

Warren schools have 15 active student cases and seven staff cases. Its online dashboard lists 102 students (down seven) and 15 staff members (down five) quarantining because of contact with the virus.

E. Wilson Morrison Elementary added one student case, and Warren County High removed one.

Since Sept. 8, the school division has had 52 positive cases among students (up two) and 33 among staff, as well as 409 students (up three) and 102 staff (down one) quarantined because of direct contact cases.

Winchester schools have nine staff cases (down six) and nine student cases.

John Handley High has two staff (down two) and three student cases (down one). Daniel Morgan Middle has three student cases. Daniel Morgan Intermediate has one staff case (up one) and one student case. Frederick Douglass Elementary has one staff case (down two). Garland R. Quarles Elementary has one staff case (up one) and two student cases. John Kerr Elementary has two staff cases. Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart Elementary has one staff case (down one). Central Administrative Support Services has one staff case (down one).

The dashboard also lists 20 staff members (up eight) and 128 students (up 58) on active self-quarantine.

Frederick County schools on Wednesday reported one new staff case at Orchard View Elementary, one new student case at Frederick County Middle, James Wood High and Millbrook High.

On Tuesday the district was reporting new student cases at Bass-Hoover Elementary, James Wood Middle and James Wood High (one each), Middletown Elementary (two) and Millbrook High and Sherando High (four each)

New staff cases (one each) were reported at Greenwood Mill Elementary, Middletown Elementary, Stonewall Elementary, Frederick County Middle, Sherando High and the facilities services department.

Regional cases

Elsewhere in the region, Harrisonburg has a total of 4,888 cases (up 28), 135 hospitalizations and 48 deaths.

Rockingham County has reported 4,737 4,682 cases (up), 245 hospitalizations (up three) and 54 deaths (up four).
