Mount Jackson will ring in spring with its first-ever chili cook-off tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mount Jackson Town Hall.
Mount Jackson Mayor J.G. ‘Bucky’ Miller said this is the first festival that the newly created Hometown Partnership is putting on for the town.
“This partnership is a breath of fresh ideas for future events and activities going on in Mount Jackson,” he said. “I am so very proud of their hard work and determination in helping me and the town move forward positively.”
Miller said, as of last Friday, there have been about 20 entries into the cook-off. There will be adult, youth and junior divisions.
The event will also include local musical talents Garrett Estep, Tim Ambrose, The Rineard Family, and “The Lamp Man” Rob Grandfield performing throughout the event at the gazebo at Mayor’s Park.
There will also be food vendors — including Corn Stalk, Pigs with Wings, Halo Creations, and Freedom Funnel Cakes — and crafters — including Susan’s Primitives, Roy Wiles, Bird House Engineering, C&Tee Creations — on hand during the festival.
There will also be activities for children.
Admission for the event is free.
