James Poplar’s letter of Jan. 28 decried the lack of civility in our political discourse. I strongly share his concern.
He wonders: “I can’t understand why many residents of the valley literally hate President Trump.”
The short answer is that hate begets hate.
I try not to hate anyone. My faith tells me that to hate someone is a sin. I don’t hate Mr. Trump, but I hate his policies. I hate his resort to fear to divide the country.
In Front Royal, I and other Democrats have been called baby killers by people wearing Trump hats. I have been called this by people who don’t know the first thing about me.
Hate begets hate and civility begets civility.
