Editor:

I would like to commend the Northern Virginia Daily for publishing the article by Evan Goodenow regarding the continued advice for mask-wearing and distancing to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our local numbers of cases are increasing and I note a concomitant increasingly cavalier approach to mask use by the public. Restaurant buffets were packed this weekend and some customers in small shops were seemingly defiant as they entered without masks or poorly applied masks.

I am also discouraged by the reticence of those who qualify for vaccination but refuse. Resistant variants are increasing and we cannot control this pandemic unless we all cooperate.

A Facebook friend again sent me a video filled with truths and half-truths mixed with outright misinformation from an “expert” who demonstrates that those who understand the importance of mask-wearing, distancing, good handwashing and vaccination should not stop in their efforts to combat the misinformation and continue to support the science-backed interventions so we can control this disease.
