At the end of this month, we will celebrate Memorial Day and June 14 is Flag Day followed quickly by Independence Day, July 4.
Many people and businesses in our county fly the American flag, so this may be the right time to ask the following questions: Are the colors bright? Is it clean? Has it become torn or ripped where it hits the house or roof in the wind? Does it get wrapped around the pole?
If you decide to replace it, there are local hardware stores that carry American-made American flags. They also have poles with grommets that prevent wrapping.
Your old flag should be taken to the American Legion or VFW. There are strict rules concerning the disposal of flags and these veteran organizations are familiar with the protocols.
No matter politics; treatment of the flag matters.
