A trio of local athletes was named to the all-state basketball teams on Tuesday.

Central's Dominic Strother and Skyline's Mason Schmitz were named to the Class 3 All-State boys basketball team. Strasburg's Christyan Reid was named to the first team Class 2 All-State girls basketball team.

Strother was a first-team selection and Schmitz was named to the second team.

Strother, the Class 3 Northwestern District and Region 3B Player of the Year, averaged an area-best 22.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season.

He also averaged 2.2 steals and 1.8 assists per contest. Strother shot 55.1% (190-for-345) from the field, including 32.8% (20-for-61) from 3-point range. He also shot 72.8% (174-for-239) from the free-throw line.

Strother led the Falcons to the Region 3B title and a state semifinal berth.

Schmitz averaged 16.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game for the Hawks.

He shot 42.3% (166-for-392) from the field and 27.3% (21-for-77) from 3-point range. Schmitz went 42-for-75 (56%) from the free-throw line.

Schmitz led a young Hawks' squad to the Region 3B semifinals.

Cave Spring's Jalen Buster was named the Class 3 State Player of the Year and Cave Spring's Jacob Gruse was named the Coach of the Year.

Reid, averaged 17.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. The senior shot an area-best 56.9% (223-for-392) from the field. She was 91-for-143 (63.6%) from the free-throw line.

Reid led the Rams to the Class 2 state semifinals.

Gate City's Sarah Thompson was named the Class 2 State Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Gate City's Kelly Houseright was named Class 2 State Girls Basketball Coach of the Year.
