FRONT ROYAL – A Front Royal man is due in Warren County General District Court in May after being charged with abduction and rape from an incident that allegedly occurred in February.
According to a criminal complaint against Joseph Dodson, 40, of 228 Fletcher St., the Front Royal Police Department was contacted on Feb. 2 by Warren Memorial Hospital about a woman who said she had been abducted and raped.

Dodson told her if she made a sound, he would kill her and he displayed a semi-auto handgun with a wooden grip while making the threat, the complaint states.
The woman was then placed in the trunk of his car and driven to another location, where he kicked her in the mouth and slammed her head into the car door numerous times, the complaint states. Dodson then raped her, the complaint states.
Dodson was released on $5,000 bond from Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail. Among his conditions of release are to not commit acts of violence, force or threat or criminal offenses that may result in injury to person or property and have no contact with the woman, according to the clerk’s office.
