A 36-year-old man was charged with assault Friday after an incident on Jan. 31 that sent a male to the hospital.

Lewis Darnyl Porter was arrested Friday by Middletown police in Frederick County and charged with aggravated malicious wounding and violating probation, according to a news release from Front Royal police. Porter's place of residence was not included in the news release.

He was arrested after Front Royal police received a complaint about an assault in the 400 block of Viscose Avenue on Jan. 31. The release states that police were told a male had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries during an altercation. The male suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head after being struck multiple times with a weapon, the release states. He was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital, according to the release, and then was transferred to Winchester Medical Center where he had surgery.  He was released from the hospital, the release states.

Porter is being held at the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center without bond. He is due in Warren County General District Court at 10 a.m. March 16.

In addition to Middletown police, Front Royal police were assisted by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshal’s Service in apprehending Porter, the release states.
