Warren County School officials say the modular units recently delivered to A.S. Rhodes Elementary School will be used.

The units were delivered to A.S. Rhodes about the time Gov. Ralph Northam ordered schools closed. A couple of units were delivered before the closure and the rest afterward.

Interim Superintendent Melody Sheppard said the division anticipates the modular units will still be used as classrooms when students return in August.

Lantz Construction Company of Winchester is contracted to do the renovations.

The construction contractors, while school was in session, had a limited number of hours they could work due to students being in the building, Sheppard said. With the building now closed, the contractors have more access that may speed up the schedule.

The renovation project includes creating a secure front entrance to the building, making restrooms compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, new floors, and a new ceiling.

At the March 18th Warren County School Board meeting, the board approved the purchase and installation of a heating and cooling system.

The total available to the school division for the renovation project is $4,146,410.
