A motorcyclist died in a two-vehicle crash in Shenandoah County on Saturday afternoon.

A 2006 Dodge Dakota, driven by Denis C. Kitner east on Edinburg Gap Road, crossed a double solid yellow center line and collided with a westbound 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle at approximately 12:50 p.m. Saturday near Vale Vista Drive, according to information provided Wednesday by Virginia State Police Sgt. Brent Coffey, the public information officer for the Culpeper Division.

The motorcycle rider, Joseph W. McGee, 65, of Hampstead, Maryland, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene as a result of his injuries, according to police.

Kitner, 75, of Fort Valley, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Emergency workers took Kitner to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital for treatment, according to police information.

Police charged Kitner with reckless driving. The crash remains under investigation.

While age is not shown yet as a factor for Mr. Kitner one still has to wonder. Family members need to be aware and be prepared to take steps to remove the ability for the elder members to drive. They just do not always recognize when they need to give it up or just refuse to act on it when they do realize.
