Things looked bleak for New Market early in its game with Elkton on Tuesday night.

Facing elimination, the Shockers’ bats came to life in the nick of time. New Market rallied from a three-run deficit for an 11-3 victory over the Blue Sox in the first round of the Rockingham County Baseball League playoffs. The win evens the best-of-3 series at 1-1. New Market was scheduled to host Elkton in the third and final game of the series on Wednesday.

The second-seeded Shockers trailed 3-0 after the first two innings but scored one run in the fourth and broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning.

New Market finished with 17 hits in the win. Grant Thompson (Shenandoah University) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Shockers. Sherando graduate Frankie Ritter (Shenandoah University) had two hits, including a homer, two RBIs and a run scored.

Matt House (Shenandoah University), Hadan Madagan (Shenandoah University), Ty Bennett (Shenandoah University) and Matt Moon (Shenandoah University) each had two hits.

Sherando graduate Tad Dean (Shenandoah University) went eight innings on the mound and picked up the win. He struck out three.
