Nichole Rittgers (Warren County ’18) is having a solid freshman season at Covenant College, located in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, this year.
The 5-foot-7 guard scored a career-high 21 points in a 91-14 victory over Wesleyan (Georgia) on Saturday. Rittgers hit seven 3-pointers in the victory. She also had six rebounds in the win.
Rittgers has played in seven games this season for the Scots and is averaging 3.7 points per contest. She is shooting 45.0 percent (9-for-20) from the field and 47.1 from the 3-point range (8-for-17). She is also averaging 2.1 rebounds per contest.
Rittgers also had three points in a 92-31 win over Wesleyan on Jan. 4.
The Scots are 7-13 on the season, including 5-7 in the USA South Conference.
FLYING START: Davina Lane (Sherando ’17) is off to a successful start to her sophomore indoor track season at George Mason University.
This past weekend, Lane won the women’s 60-meter hurdles event in the George Mason Patriot Games held at George Mason. She won the event in a time of 8.93.
Lane finished seventh in the women’s 60-meter hurdles at the Father Diamond Invitational held at George Mason on Jan. 5. She finished in a time of 9.03 seconds.
Lane was also part of the women’s 4x400 meter relay team, which finished fourth in a time of 4:02.67.
Lane placed 11th in the women’s 60-meter hurdles in the Great Dane Classic with a time of 9.06. The meet was hosted by the University of Albany in Staten Island, New York on Jan. 12. She also finished 11th in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 25.56.
On Jan. 19, Lane finished 11th in the women’s 60-meter hurdles in the Keydet Invitational held at Virginia Military Institute. She finished with a time of 8.95. Lane also competed in the women’s 4x400 relay in the Keydet Invitational and helped her team finish 18th in a time of 4:11.27.
The track and field team will be participating in the Crimson Elite & Pentathlon held at Harvard University on Friday.
