WINCHESTER — Ginger, a 4-year-old shepherd heeler mix, is up for adoption.

Katlyn Himelright, a member of the adoption team at the SPCA of Winchester, Frederick, and Warren counties, said that Ginger was brought into the shelter in October after being transferred from another animal shelter.

“Ginger is nervous around new people,” she said. “She warms up to people eventually.”

Himelright recommended that people who are considering adopting Ginger make multiple visits to the shelter to see her so the dog can get used to them. She also recommends potential owners with no kids and no other dogs.

“She seems very protective,” Himelright said. “I recommend someone who has a lot of patience if they’re looking to adopt Ginger.”

Himelright said that the shelter is unaware of any health problems Ginger has and the dog is up to date on all of her shots. Ginger also has been spayed.

The adoption fee for Ginger is $95.
