Ryder, a 2-year-old basenji mix, is available for adoption at the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter in Edinburg.

EDINBURG – Ryder, a 2-year-old basenji mix, is available for adoption.

Grace Canzurlo, an animal caretaker at the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter, said that Ryder was brought into the shelter a few months ago as a stray.

“[Ryder’s] very excitable and playful,” she said.

Canzurlo said that Ryder’s good around new people, and recommends Ryder for homes with older children.

She also said that Ryder should be pretty good around other cats or dogs.

“We recommend bringing other dogs and cats into the shelter so Ryder can meet them,” she said.

Canzurlo said that Ryder is house broken and is quiet.

“[Ryder] loves to play with his stuffed toys and he carries a ball around,” she said, adding that he also likes his treats.

Canzurlo said that Ryder knows a few commands like “sit” and “lay down.” She said Ryder also loves to run around.

Ryder is up to date on his shots and has been neutered. The adoption fee is $25.
