Front Royal police have charged a 51-year-old Front Royal man with assault and battery after he allegedly threw liquid on a man.

Police on Sunday were called to the Front Royal fire station No. 1 for an assault that had just occurred at a nearby pizza parlor, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. Police spoke to the man who told them that as he was leaving work Marcus Lee Lewis walked up to him. The man said Lewis was wearing sunglasses, plastic gloves, and a black knit hat. The man alleged Lewis threw a liquid on his arms and hands, the complaint states.

A bail determination checklist filed in court indicates Lewis has lived in the community for nine years but had just been fired from his job.

He remains at Rappahannock-Shenanandoh-Warren Regional Jail without bail. His next court appearance is May 14.

Capt. Crystal Cline said she did not know what the liquid was or why the assault occurred.
