Information on a road rage incident on Sunday evening that included a gunshot is being sought by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident in the area of John Marshal Highway and Ashland Court was reported around 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

A sedan, with a man and woman inside it, was being brake-checked by a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer with dark tinted windows, Capt. Robert Mumaw said by phone interview. A brake check is when a motorist hits his breaks when someone is tailgating.

The sedan pulled around the Trailblazer and the occupants heard a lone gunshot ring out, Mumaw said. When the sedan's occupants arrived home, they discovered a bullet hole in the trunk of their car.

No injuries and only property damage to the sedan was reported, Mumaw said. Bullet fragments were recovered from the sedan and sent to a lab. It was not immediately clear what type of gun was used.

Police do not have a description of the suspect(s), Mumaw said, but the Trailblazer was last seen traveling eastbound on Interstate 66. A bulletin for the vehicle was sent out.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Sheriff's Office deputy John Gregory at 540-635-4128.
