FRONT ROYAL — A Front Royal man died after being found unresponsive in the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail, according to a jail news release.

William Rodger Wines, 54, who was booked into the jail for a “delayed confinement/non-consecutive” driving under the influence sentence “was found unresponsive” during “security rounds at about 12:39 a.m. Wednesday, according to the release.

The release states that the jail’s medical staff was notified immediately and preformed “emergency medical treatment.” Wines was then transported to Warren Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:21 a.m.

The matter is under investigation by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and more information will be released later, according to the release. RSW Superintendent Russ Gilkison said via text message that “I can not tell you anything other than what was in the press release” due to the ongoing investigation.
