WOODSTOCK – The Shenandoah County School Board on Thursday approved the calendar for its work on the 2021 fiscal year budget.

Superintendent Mark Johnston said they have produced an efficient calendar.

“It enables us to have discussion and input into developing a needs-based budget as required by the Virginia code,” Johnston said.

The dates when citizens can comment on the proposed budget are the 7 p.m. Jan. 9 School Board meeting and pre-budget public hearing; the 7 p.m. Feb. 13 School Board meeting where Johnston will disclose his proposed budget; and the 5:30 p.m. Feb. 20 budget work session and public hearing on the budget.

Johnston said residents can also provide input at board meetings and in writing to Shenandoah County Public Schools, 600 N.  Main St., Woodstock, Virginia 22664.

Important dates for the Shenandoah County budget, which influences the school budget, are 7 p.m. Feb. 25, when the county administrator will present a proposed budget; and 7 p.m. April 2 during the Board of Supervisors public hearing on the budget and tax rate.
