WINCHESTER – Shenandoah University head football coach Scott Yoder announced on Friday the Hornets’ 2020 schedule, which includes five home games and the same 10 opponents SU played during the 2019 campaign.
Shenandoah’s five home games – against North Carolina Wesleyan (Sept. 12), Guilford (Sept. 26), Randolph-Macon (Oct. 10), Hampden-Sydney (Oct. 17) and Ferrum (Oct. 31) – all kick off at 1 p.m. for the first time in program history. The upcoming season will mark just the second time in program history that the Hornets have played the same 10 opponents in back-to-back seasons.
The Hornets, who went 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in 2019, open the 2020 season with a road trip to Methodist on Sept. 5 before hosting N.C. Wesleyan the following week in their only non-conference home game of the season.
Shenandoah opens ODAC play in Week 3 at Bridgewater, and SU’s conference slate also includes road trips to Southern Virginia (Oct. 3), Emory & Henry (Oct. 24) and Washington and Lee (Nov. 14).
The Oct. 17 home game against Hampden-Sydney is part of Shenandoah’s homecoming weekend, and the Oct. 31 contest against Ferrum at Shentel Stadium will serve as senior day.
Shenandoah’s bye week comes late in the season – in Week 10 – before the finale against W&L.
“With the uncertainty, we are all experiencing, it is nice to be able to look forward to the fall and see what we have in front of us," Yoder stated in a news release.
“We are focusing on our academics and doing all the things we need to do to be able to return to campus this summer ready to get the season started on the right foot.”
