New Market started off slow and couldn’t recover in a 15-3 home loss to Broadway on Sunday in Rockingham County Baseball League action.

The Bruins (1-1) scored 12 runs in the first three innings, including seven in the second. They eventually built a 15-0 advantage before holding on for their first victory of the season.

The Shockers (1-1) committed five errors in the loss. Sherando graduate Frankie Ritter (Shenandoah University) had two hits and one RBI and 2018 Shenandoah University graduate Nick Goode had two hits and a run scored to lead New Market. Henry Delavergne (Shenandoah University) had two hits and Ethan Laird (Shenandoah University) had a double and two RBIs for the Shockers.

Stonewall Jackson and James Madison graduate Colton Harlow took the loss on the mound. Harlow gave up eight runs, five of which were earned, and had five strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work.

Stonewall Jackson graduate Cole Holsinger went 1-for-2 with a run scored for Broadway.

The Shockers host Clover Hill (2-0) at 7:30 p.m. today.
