Editor’s note: This is one in a series of question and answer articles about local candidates running for office. The Northern Virginia Daily asked the candidate running for Warren County treasurer three questions. The unedited responses are below.

Jamie Spiker is the lone candidate seeking the office that was vacated upon former Treasurer Wanda Bryant’s retirement.

How would you prioritize which delinquent real estate taxes should be collected?

The Treasurer’s Office does try to collect on any real estate taxes that are delinquent. At this time our office has two collection agencies that collect on all real estate that has become 3 years delinquent.

If elected, what goals do you wish to accomplish during your term?

My main goal is being aggressive on collections to help stabilize the tax rate. My second goal would be to have a mail machine that would post tax payments during our busiest times. We have always had to post each piece of mail by hand.

What is one change you would make to how the office operates?

I feel that the office runs efficiently. The only change I would make is setting an expected number of collections to be done daily.
