An unattended death outside a Virginia State Police office in Edinburg is being investigated by that agency.

The death was discovered around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after a Virginia State Police supervisor found a vehicle parked in the parking lot of their Area 14 Office, located in the 18000 block of Old Valley Pike, Sgt. Brent Coffey states in an email.

As the supervisor approached the vehicle, he found a deceased male in the driver’s seat suffering from a gunshot wound, Coffey states. A handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle.

The death does not appear to be suspicious in nature, Coffey states. The man’s remains were transported to the Office of Medical Examiner for examination and autopsy. The investigation remains ongoing.

Coffey did not immediately respond to questions of whether the death was a suicide, who the male is and what he might have been doing at the office.
