In a meeting of the Strasburg Fire Department on Thursday, department’s Interim President Milton Painter resigned from his role as a member of Strasburg’s Fire Department Restructuring Committee and from his positions as a member and interim president of the department.
Painter said in an interview on Friday that he resigned because of the amount of time the work took.
“It’s taken a lot of time and energy,” Painter said. “And it’s going to take more time and energy and, quite frankly, I don’t have it any more: time, energy and, more importantly, the drive to do it.”
Painter stressed that his resignation didn’t have to do with any problems with the department.
“It wasn’t because of anything or anyone,” Painter said. “It’s just an exhaustion kind of thing. I think it’s just time for somebody else to take the reins and see what they can do to keep things moving forward in a positive direction.”
Painter said that the department voted during its meeting to appoint Robbie Scott to the Restructuring Committee.
Two members of the Restructuring Committee are appointed by the department. The other department-appointed member of the committee is Chris Ritenour.
The Restructuring Committee, meanwhile, will have to vote to replace Painter as the department’s interim president.
Strasburg Town Manager Wyatt Pearson said that the committee will discuss Painter’s replacement during its next meeting.
